Typeset to the second
A mechanical engineer by training, Stéphane Pierre is founding his own watch brand. When he gets back in touch in autumn 2024, his first watch is in the works and people are already waiting for it. What he’s still missing is an identity to tell his story.

A brand to build around a watch still in development.
I’ve known Stéphane since 2018 (I drew the dial lettering for his first project, ONEROI). This time he comes with a very thorough manifesto and the drawing of L’Impétrant, his first watch. A small constraint, and not the least of them: he didn’t want his name on the dial, only on the back. On the face, the monogram would have to manage on its own.

Three monograms, and the one that really tells his story.
I proposed three monograms, each drawn from an idea in his manifesto. The one based on the movement was too mechanical, the one about pushing yourself a bit too common. We kept the one that comes from a much more personal place: the Choux de Créteil, the cabbage-shaped towers near Paris, with their very particular architecture, where Stéphane grew up.

A dedicated typeface, designed for engraving.
For text, Stéphane had rated existing fonts himself against his own criteria (engraving on the back topping the list), and none of them ticked every box. So I drew SP Sans, in capitals and numerals, to hold up when engraved on the back of the cases. It was approved after real engraving tests, without a single problem.

From the logo to the typeface, all the way to the website.
A bit like in a movement, each part drove the next. The monogram set the tone for the typeface, the typeface gave the guidelines their voice, and the guidelines ended up engraved on the back of the cases, then on the website. The brand was unveiled on 2 April 2026 with L’Impétrant, and everything you see of it today comes from that first drawing.
